Empowering Local NGOs: Progress Update on CRCI

We’re thrilled to share the latest updates on our Community Resilience and Coordination Initiative (CRCI) in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KR-I). This initiative, led by the Judy Organization for Relief and Development (JORD) in partnership with the International Council of Voluntary Agencies (ICVA), is dedicated to empowering local communities and organizations, reducing aid dependency, and promoting sustainable humanitarian responses. More details here!

The project officially started on March 28th after signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). From there, we launched a dynamic social media campaign that reached over 111,000 people. We also engaged with local NGOs in Domiz 1 & 2 Camps in Duhok and the Daratu area in Erbil. As a result, we received 22 registrations from enthusiastic local NGOs eager to participate.

After a thorough assessment process, we are excited to announce the two selected NGOs that will partner with us in this project:

Hitma Organization for Cultural and Social Development (HOCSD) – Erbil

Known locally as HITMA, this NGO has been making a difference since 2017, working on projects related to Syrian Missing Persons, Livelihoods, and protection. Despite funding challenges, they continue to provide vital services with the help of dedicated volunteers.

Nudem Community Development Organization – Duhok

Originally two community-based organizations, Hevi CBO and Roj CBO, Nudem has now merged into a single registered NGO. They operate in Domiz 1 & 2 Refugee Camps, offering psychosocial support and non-formal education to children.

Moving forward, JORD team has been hard at work planning the next steps. We’ve had several strategic meetings, including a kickoff meeting with all relevant JORD team members and follow-up meetings with the selected organizations to ensure everything is on track.
Additionally, MoUs with the selected NGOs have been signed, and capacity building trainings are being provided as per the newly-set plans. Make sure to follow us for the latest updates!
