Durable Communities and Economic Opportunities (DCEO)
Project Details:
Project Summary:
In the vibrant community of Baharka, a new project blossomed. Led by Judy Organization for Relief and Development (JORD) and funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through the Durable Communities and Economic Opportunities (DCEO) program, Baharka’s Youth Center became a beacon of growth and learning from October 21 to December 20, 2023.
Baharka’s Youth Center Staff
The project aimed to actively involve and support Baharka’s Youth Center staff. Through comprehensive staff training in management, facilitated by JORD’s program manager, and diversity and inclusion training, the Youth Center became a more welcoming space for everyone.
Empowering Through Skills Development
For Baharka’s youth, the project offered valuable life skills training through specialized workshops and hands-on learning experiences. With a focus on resume writing and job search strategies, participants gained confidence in shaping their futures.
Fostering Community Through Sports
A highlight of the program was the hosting of football tournaments for both boys and girls. Following staff training on management and inclusion, these tournaments provided not only opportunities for friendly competition but also celebrations for winning teams. Throughout the tournaments, awareness messages on Diversity and Inclusion and its essential role in spreading a culture of peaceful coexistence were spread.
Celebrating Achievements
As the project drew to a close, Baharka’s Youth Center came alive with a vibrant closing ceremony. With music and a variety of youth activities, participants and staff alike celebrated their accomplishments and shared in the spirit of community.
Making a Lasting Impact
With 280 individuals benefiting from the project, its impact was profound, offering hope and tangible opportunities for Baharka’s youth. Through the collaborative efforts of USAID and the dedication of JORD, Baharka’s youth embarked on a journey of growth and learning, poised to uplift their community for years to come.

Some of the comments by our Beneficiaries:

Reber Salim – Youth and Sport Centre Manager
“It was a fantastic training course, truly beneficial. I’ve participated in many training sessions before, but this one was extremely useful for me. It played a role for all participants in helping us understand people and how to interact with them, applying it in our practical lives. I thank all the parties involved for offering such workshops/training to enhance our youth. I look forward to these courses continuing because we need them to develop ourselves first, to be a project for the development of our community and our country”.
